Reporting MRSA in Schools

Should I report one case of MRSA in my school to GCHD?

No, individual cases of MRSA are not required to be reported in Michigan.

For a list of diseases that are required to be reported by schools please see pages 8 and 9 of the GCHD Communicable Disease Reporting Handbook for Schools and Daycares

What if there is more than one case of MRSA in my school?

Outbreaks of MRSA are required to be reported to the GCHD. An outbreak is defined as "three or more culture positive cases in a facility"

Outbreaks should be reported as soon as possible to GCHD by calling 810-257-1017.

For more information about MRSA please see GCHD's MRSA webpage
