Licensing of Septic Installers in Genesee County

You must be licensed by the Genesee County Health Department in order to install septic systems in Genesee County.

In order to become licensed, you must first pass a written test proving that you are knowledgeable with Genesee County’s Construction Standards and Regulations (a copy of these regulations are available if you request them). The test can be taken Monday through Friday at the Health Department between 8am-noon or 1pm-5pm. Please allow sufficient time to complete the test (typically takes about 30 minutes).

Once you have successfully passed the test, you must also:

  • Complete the application form
  • Supply a surety bond in the amount of $35,000.00 (valid through the end of the year)
  • Pay the annual license fee of $210.00

Please note that if we do not receive all of these articles, your license will not be processed, you will not be able to do any septic system work in Genesee County, and your name will not appear on our list of licensed septic installers, which is available to the public.

If you’ve been licensed with our county in the past 5 years, you can renew your license by completing the above three steps and omitting the test.

Upon receipt of your application and documents, your license and identification stickers will be sent to the business address listed on your application.
