You must be licensed by the Genesee County Health Department in order to install septic systems in Genesee County.
In order to become licensed, you must first pass a written test proving that you are knowledgeable with Genesee County’s Sewage Disposal Construction Standards and Regulations. We require all contractors to take this written test every three years. The test can be taken Monday through Friday at the Health Department between 8am-3:30pm. Please allow sufficient time to complete the test (typically takes about 30 minutes).

Please note that all three of the above requirements need to be fulfilled before your license will be processed. If your licensing is not complete, you are prohibited from doing any septic system work in Genesee County. Once complete, your license and identifications stickers will be sent to the business address listed on your application. Also, your company’s name and information will appear on our list of licensed septic installers, which are available to the public.
